Abstract

Introduction: This study was performed to evaluate the body condition score in drought period and calving time on the incidence of metabolic diseases in Holstein cows in Isfahan province.
Materials & Methods: 5138 birth records were extracted from different births since 1395. Data included livestock number, year, of calving, month of calving, length of drought period, length of gestation period, calf birth weight, calf sex, number of calves born per calving, retain placenta, dystocia, stillbirth and metritis. For uniformity, the data were classified into different classes. Data were analyzed using SAS 9.4 software using GLIMMIX procedure.
Results: In this study, the effect of calving abdomen on retain placental relation, hardening, stillbirth and metritis was reported significantly (p≤0.01). The effect of calf birth weight on retain placenta (Weights less than 35 kg and more than 46 Kg), dystocia and stillbirth (calves weighing 46 kg) and metritis were observed (p≤0.01). Effect of drought duration on retain placenta incidence (Less than 45 days' drought period and 61- 100 days' drought period with 46-60 days) day & dry period 61-100 days (with a period of 46-60 days) a significant difference was reported (p≤0.01). The effect of gestational age on retain placenta was significantly different (p≤0.01). But its effect on stillbirth was not reported to be significant. The effect of calving season on the incidence of retain placenta and metritis was significant (p≤ 0.01).
Conclusion: The results of the present study showed that the rate of change in physical condition score on the incidence of metabolic diseases (placenta, dystocia, stillbirth and metritis) was reported to be insignificant.
