Nile tilapia Garlic extract Growth performance Blood parameterAbstract
Introduction: This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different levels of supplementation of garlic extracts on the growth performance and blood parameters of Nile tilapia (O. niloticus) for 60 days.
Materials and Methods: Nile tilapia (with an average initial weight of 10±0.2g) were divided into four experimental treatments with three replicates (30 fish/ replicate) which containing control treatment (without garlic extract) and three treatments were supplemented with garlic extracts 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20 g/kg diet.
Results: The results showed that the highest final weight, weight gain, specific growth rate and condition factor were observed in fish fed with 0.2 g/kg garlic extract. Moreover, the highest hemoglobin, hematocrit, and red blood cell were recorded in treatment 4
(P<0.05).
Conclusion: The results of this study showed that Nile tilapia fed the diet containing 0.2 g/kg garlic had better blood parameters and growth performance compared to other groups.
