Leveraging Positive Human-Wildlife Interactions for Coexistence in Urban Regions Under Rapid Development

Abstract

The recent rate of global urbanization, an unprecedented pace, the old paradigm of human-wildlife conflict is altering its form to a complex form of coexistence. The study is one of the solutions to the acute problem of maintaining biodiversity in the rapidly growing urban areas where the negative interaction processes are converted into positive ones through leveraging.  This study takes a multidisciplinary approach, known as coupled human and natural systems approach, which involves synthesis of ecological information using social survey methods. The methodology measures the effectiveness of artificial intelligence-based monitoring and citizen science programs in urban fringe regions to support the design of something that is wildlife inclusive.  The results have shown that the real-time detection systems of animals and the active participation of stakeholders reduce the friction level significantly and increase the psychological strength of the people living in urban areas. Also, findings shows that urban wildlife undergoes strong changes in evolution to the thickening habitats. These adaptive features can be exploited in a premeditated manner in the form of strategic habitat restoration and novel building designs. The research concludes that sustainable coexistence does not only consist of the lack of conflict but active integration of the urban environment with wildlife. Planners can also create resilient ecosystems in which the well-being of humans and the existence of species live in symbiosis by concentrating on positive leveraging. This study will act as a critical policy guide that will enable sustainability of the environment to be incorporated into the modern urban environment.
