Abstract: Entomopathogenic fungi (EPF) play a significant role in biological control, offering a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides in agriculture. This paper explores the pathogenic effects of EPF on agricultural pests, focusing on their biology, mechanisms of action, and implications for pest management. Entomopathogenic fungi, such as Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae, are naturally occurring pathogens of insects that can effectively reduce pest populations. These fungi infect their hosts through various mechanisms, leading to mortality and impacting pest dynamics in agricultural systems. Understanding the pathology of these fungi is crucial for developing effective biocontrol strategies. The research work highlights the infection process of EPF, including the role of conidia, germination, and penetration of the host cuticle. It discusses the biochemical pathways involved in fungal pathogenicity, such as the production of toxic metabolites and hydrolytic enzymes that facilitate host tissue degradation.
