Abstract: Mosquitoes are among the most prominent vectors of human diseases, transmitting pathogens that cause malaria, dengue, Zika, chikungunya, and other life-threatening conditions. Understanding the vectorial capacity of mosquitoes – their ability to acquire, host, and transmit pathogens – is critical for controlling vector-borne diseases. Recent advances in genomic technologies have revolutionized the study of mosquitoes, offering insights into their biology, population dynamics, and interactions with pathogens. This reseacrh paper explores the role of genomics in deciphering the complex mechanisms underlying mosquito vectorial capacity. It delves into the biology of key mosquito species, the molecular interactions between mosquitoes and pathogens, and how environmental factors influence genomic adaptations. We highlight the potential of cutting-edge genomic techniques, such as CRISPR and gene drive, to manipulate mosquito populations and reduce their competence as disease vectors.
