Abstract

Developing sensible strategies to eradicate crop pests depends on an awareness of the part scents play in their finding of hosts. This chapter explores the crucial role scent plays in determining the hosts for agricultural pests. This chapter examines how bugs locate perfect hosts via volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It achieves this by considering their perceptions of scents, which influences agricultural practices and approaches of pest management.

Introduction: Olfactory cues are vital in the ecological interactions between agricultural pests and their host plants. Understanding these cues is essential for developing effective pest management strategies, as they significantly influence pest behavior and distribution.

Result: This chapter covers many research demonstrating the significance of odors for several kinds of agricultural pests, including Lepidopteran, Coleopteran, and Hemipteran species, in terms of host finding. It covers how these insects detect and respond to scent signals, including how they could identify volatile organic compounds produced by plants. We also look at environmental elements like temperature and agricultural techniques as well as personal perceptions of scents. Case studies suggest that these indicators help pests locate appropriate hosts more easily, which increases their frequency in crops.
