Abstract

Education is a fundamental human right and a key driver of social, economic, and national development. However, educational inequality remains a significant challenge, particularly in underfunded schools that serve students from economically and socially disadvantaged communities. This study examines the relationship between education and inequality by focusing on three critical dimensions: educational access, learning outcomes, and opportunities available to students in underfunded schools. The study adopts a descriptive research design based entirely on secondary data collected from government reports, UNESCO, UNICEF, World Bank, OECD publications, the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), UDISE+, NCERT reports, research journals, and scholarly publications. The findings indicate that inadequate school funding, poor infrastructure, teacher shortages, limited digital resources, and socio-economic disparities significantly affect students' educational experiences and academic performance. Despite various government initiatives aimed at improving educational equity, substantial gaps continue to exist in access to quality education and future opportunities. The study emphasizes that equitable funding, improved school infrastructure, qualified teachers, digital inclusion, and effective implementation of educational policies are essential for reducing educational disparities. It concludes that strengthening underfunded schools through inclusive and sustainable educational reforms will enhance learning outcomes, promote equal opportunities, and contribute to social justice and long-term national development.
