Mosquitoes are among the most significant vectors of infectious diseases affecting global public health, transmitting pathogens responsible for malaria, dengue, chikungunya, Zika, Japanese encephalitis, and several other illnesses. The spatial and temporal distribution of mosquito populations is largely governed by environmental conditions that directly influence breeding habitat availability, larval survival, and adult emergence. Climatic variables such as temperature, rainfall, humidity, and seasonal fluctuations interact with ecological characteristics including water quality, vegetation cover, land use, soil properties, and urbanization to determine habitat suitability for different mosquito genera. Human-induced environmental modifications, including improper waste disposal, water storage practices, inadequate drainage systems, and rapid urban expansion, further create favorable breeding sites and enhance vector proliferation. Understanding these multifactorial environmental determinants is essential for predicting mosquito abundance, identifying high-risk breeding locations, and implementing effective vector surveillance and integrated control strategies. This study reviews the major environmental factors influencing mosquito breeding habitats, evaluates their ecological interactions, and highlights their implications for vector management and disease prevention. The findings provide scientific evidence supporting sustainable environmental management approaches aimed at minimizing breeding habitats and reducing the burden of mosquito-borne diseases under changing climatic and anthropogenic conditions.
