Agricultural Technology Adoption among Sugarcane Farmers: An Empirical Study of Yamunanagar District, Haryana

Abstract

Sugarcane is one of India's most important commercial crops, with a considerable impact on agricultural productivity, rural employment, and the sugar industry. The use of advanced agricultural technologies, reformed farming practices, and high-yielding seeds has played a significant role in improving sugarcane productivity. The present study documented the use of agricultural tools and technologies by sugarcane farmers in the Yamuna Nagar district of Haryana, India. The results indicated that farmers have adopted several modern technologies in sugarcane cultivation, but the level of adoption is influenced by factors such as the availability of farm machinery at affordable prices, access to efficient irrigation systems, availability of technical guidance and institutional support. The paper highlight the importance of increasing access to reasonable agricultural machinery, promoting water-efficient irrigation systems, and strengthening agricultural extension services and institutional support. These measures can contribute to accelerating the adoption of technologies, to increasing production and to promoting sustainable sugarcane farming practices. The findings can assist policymakers, agricultural planners, extension agencies, and researchers in developing effective strategies to promote technological advancement in the sugarcane sector of Haryana.
