Monitoring Spatio-Temporal Changes in Land Use and Land Cover Using Geospatial Techniques in Murbad Tehsil, Maharashtra, India
Keywords:
Land use, land cover , change detection, Geospatial Techniques.Abstract
The present paper attempts to change detection in Murbad Tehsil using geospatial techniques. Remote Sensing is a powerful tool for collecting spatial data, while Geographical Information Systems (GIS) provide effective tools for the management, processing, and analysis of spatial data required for land development activities (Garg, 1991). Change detection analysis was carried out using satellite imagery acquired for different years, namely 1991, 2001, 2011, 2021, and 2025. The major land-use and land-cover (LULC) classes considered in the study include agricultural land, vegetation cover, built-up area, water bodies, and barren land. Murbad Tehsil extends from 19.11° N to 19.46° N latitude and from 73.29° E to 73.80° E longitude. The total geographical area of Murbad Tehsil is 913.36 sq. km.
