Abstract

Introduction: In the present study, the effect of different probiotics on growth and
nutrition indices of Asian seabass was investigated.
Materials & Methods: For this purpose, Fish with an average weight of 167.15 ±6.11
g and an average length of 32.7 ±0.77 cm were released in 10 ponds of 0.7 ha with two
densities of 4500 to 5000 and 6500 to 7000 fish per hectare and fed for 105 days with
food containing probiotics Bacillus cereus, B. thuringiensis and Lactobacillus
plantarum with a density of 1×108 CFU/gr. At the end of the experiment, Total fishes
in each pond, were harvested and total length and weight of fishes were measured.
Then, growth and nutrition indices were calculated.
Results: Analysis of the results showed a significant difference in growth and
nutrition indices between the groups fed with food containing probiotics compared to
each other and compared to the control groups (p≤ 0.05). The highest specific growth
rate, relative growth rate, protein efficiency and food efficiency were obtained in the
seventh group and the lowest (except protein efficiency) was obtained in the fifth
group (P≤0.05). In addition to the type of probiotic, the density factor also shows a
significant effect on these indicators (p≤0.05). The seventh group (storage density
6500 to 7000 and fed with food containing selected strain Bacillus cereus isolated
from the intestine of Asian bass fish with a density of 1×108 CFU/gr) showed the best
performance.
Conclusion: According to the results, food containing different probiotics, compared
to control groups, improved growth and nutritional performance.
