Abstract

We studied the effect of different salinities on growth, lifespan and maturation time in the Artemia urmiana under laboratory condition. The experiments were done on the control group and ١٢ treatment groups. Experimental salinities ranged from ٣٠ to ١٢٥gL-١. In growth experiments the mean body length of ١٠ individual Artemia from each treatment were measured in days ١, ٥, ١١ and ١٧ and results showed that in high salinities treatments (٧٥،١٠٠ & ١٢٥ppt) compared at ٣٠ppt were significantly different decrease in growth in A. urmiana (P<٠٫٠٥). The present study confirms that maximum growth was observed at ٣٠ppt (٥٫٠٦٢ ٠٫٩٣٧mm) minimum growth in A. urmiana was observed at ٧٥ppt (٣٫١٥٦٠٫٣٨٦mm). In lifespan experiments showed that, increasing the amount of salinity in cases lifespan was decreased and maturation time was late. Longest lifespan was observed at ٧٥ppt (٦٧٫٦٦ ٢٫٥١٦ day) and shortest maturation time for A. urmiana after (٢٧٫٦٦١٫٥٢٧ day) was seen at ٧٥ppt.
