Abstract

Cimetidine is a potent histamine H2-receptor antagonist. It was found that these drugs, affect the immune system. In order to determine the immunomodulatory effect of dietary intake of cimetidine in the common carp (80±10g), specimen was of diets containing 0 (control), 50, 100 and 200mg cimetidine Kg-1 of dry diet. hemoral parameters were determined after 6 weeks. The total erythrocyte count, hemoglobin content, hematocrit value and white blood cell count were significantly (P<0.05) higher than in cimetidine supplemented groups. The cortisol and C3 value were significantly (P<0.05) lower than in fish treated with cimetidine. The total serum protein, albomin and globulin contet were not significantly changed. The finding of the present study suggested that the incur of cimetidine in the diet of common carp enhanes the non-specific immunity.
